Lucian Davidescu is a professional journalist since 2001, specializing in business and finance. He moonlights as web developer, since 1999, with a focus on data architecture, semantic structures and visual storytelling. He attended Journalism at the University of Bucharest.
He started as a tech and personal finance reporter at daily Realitatea Românească and went on to head the business decks of the newspapers Cotidianul, Evenimentul zilei, and România liberă. He was briefly an editorial consultant for Digi24, setting up the station's 3D infographics workflow, and the longtime project manager at agricultural business-to-business news outlet Agrointeligența.
He served as editor-in chief at watchdog România Curată and a policy analyst at the Romanian Academic Society, where he published several peer-reviewed economic policy briefs and coordinated the 2015 Policy Report. Lucian was also a co-author in a regional study of vulnerabilities to Russian propaganda and influence, published in 2018 by Global Focus Center.
Lucian occasionally penned high-profile investigative work regarding government and corporate corruption and has won a landmark case for freedom of expression and information in front of the High Court of Cassation and Justice. Over two decades, he attended more than 500 TV political and business talkshows, as a pundit – at Realitatea, Digi24, TVR, B1, Metropola and The Money Channel.
Davidescu authored the blog Riscograma, highly popular in Romania in the heyday of blogging and a winner of RoBlogFest's business section award in 2011. He kept a Substack in English regarding the 2024 annulment of the Romanian presidential elections and the political turmoil that ensued. He published personal finance columns in Libertatea and Forbes.
The journalist was an editor for Business Standard starting in 2008 and after the newspaper's print edition demise kept on managing the standard.ro website, which he would later acquire on account of outstanding wage claims. He currently serves as the executive publisher and is the sole owner of Standard.
